I
have lived in Broadmoor for over 40 years. I attended Marjorie H.
Tobias elementary school, Ben Franklin Middle School and graduated
from Westmoor High School in 1987. I obtained an Associated of Arts
degree from Skyline College.
I
started working at the Broadmoor Police Department as an Explorer
in 1988. Exploring is where youth 14-21 years of age can be part
of a positive youth mentoring program where they learn from doing
some hands on training and ride-a-longs. In the following years
I was the police departments’ records clerk, a reserve police
officer and subsequently a police officer where I supervised the
records clerk, maintained the property & evidence and answered
the calls for service of the residents. I attended the San Francisco
Police Academy. In 1997, I was promoted to Corporal of Police where
I served as the watch commander of a patrol team
In
1999, I laterally transferred to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s
Office, where I worked in corrections and patrol as a deputy sheriff.
I was transferred into the School Resource/Community Policing Unit.
I spent the following five years working all over the county (primarily
on the Coastside). I helped to solve the problems of the residents
and created several youth programs like School Crossing Guard programs,
Sheriff’s Coastside Activities League as well as Safe & Sober
Prom presentations to the high schools.
In
2005, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant at the Sheriff’s
Office. I assumed the leadership of the Community Policing/School
Resource Unit. I supervised 11 employees (5 sworn deputies, 6 civilians).
I oversaw the bayside SAL program where we had over 1,000 youth’s
participation in five different sports.
In January of this year I was transferred to the Maguire Correctional
Facility where I supervised the intake unit of the jail. I supervised
the intake/booking, classification and the release of inmates.
In
April, I put in for and was awarded the transfer to the Emergency
Services Bureau. ESB is the Sheriff’s Office law enforcement
side of the Office of Emergency Services. OES is the unit that
responds to disasters all over the county. We are constantly
planning for the next emergency and working to educate our residents
on being prepared and keeping your family safe. I oversee a group
of over 220 volunteers. These volunteers participate in seven
different groups such as two Explorer groups, an adult Search & Rescue
unit, Cliff/Dive team, Mounted Search & Rescue team, Mountain
Search & Rescue Team and a Communications Unit. These groups
provide a valuable resource to all of San Mateo County.

I have worked on several different county-wide programs such as,
the County Day Worker Program, Disaster Preparedness Day and many
grants involving Alcohol and Other Drugs Prevention Programs.
In 1997, I was appointed to the Colma Fire Department
as a Fire Commissioner and served in that capacity until my appointment
as your Police Commissioner. As a Fire Commissioner we oversaw
the operation of the fire department. We have a great fire department
and the members do a great job in keeping us safe.
In 2001, I
was appointed to the position of Police Commissioner. I feel
my personal knowledge of the Broadmoor Police Department – not
just my 20 plus year’s law enforcement experience is a benefit
to the commission. We have made great strides in the past many
years. Your police officers have the latest technology that aids
them in solving crimes and protecting you and your family. I am
the current chairperson of the board
. I am married to Gina, my wife of almost 14 years, and have two
fantastic kids. Melissa is 8 and Anthony is 6. Both kids are involved
in after school sports as well as accomplished Irish Dancers.
We live in
Broadmoor because this is a safe neighborhood. I grew up here – my parents still live in the same house I grew
up in. This is where I want to raise my kids. Broadmoor is a great
community, we have a great police department and the police department
provides a service to the residents that can’t be compared
to.
I respectfully ask for your vote so that I can continue to serve
you on the Police Commission, and be your voice on the board.
